I did a quick strike down south to Santa Teresa, Puntarenas, CR. I'd never been to the area but I knew the waves would be playful size and i just needed a getaway to some good waves. I ended up connecting with my friend Carlos who is a well-respected photographer from the area. He hooked me up with everything I needed to have an amazing visit filled with Pura Vida!
I wasn't able to setup the beach camera very much, the beaches were packed with people. I did get a surf in at Playa Hermosa where Carlos was swimming with his camera. It happened to be one of the smaller days, but for the first 4 days of the trip the surf was pumping. I really liked that you could just walk and find a peak. I did this on most mornings around sunrise and surfed with no crowds until the surf lessons showed up and made things a little more difficult.
One of my favorite parts of the trip was the food. I'm pretty sure I ate at every place in the area from the Soda Pura Vida to Kooks Smokehouse. My favorite spot was for breakfast at Namore. Air-conditioned, fast wifi, organic local ingredients, fusion of Indian-Latin-American, it was a great wind-down spot after my morning surf session, pre-siesta timeframe.
The condo I stayed in was basic, but up in the trees with the monkeys and the spiders. The price was really good and the spot was in the center in prime location. I'd definitely go back. I think it's a good spot with enough spread-out surf to get your waves in, but there is still plenty to do. I figured out having a 4x4 ATV was the way to go. Dangerous as hell, but I guess, Pura Vida!?!
I'm home now looking at plenty of north swell in the forecast. Let's connect and get a session in this winter! Hope you're surfing where you are. Yewww!
